I’m Steve Geiger, and this is Mellow Wanderer.
For much of my career, I worked behind the scenes producing national television news. Along the way, I was fortunate to earn an Emmy Award, but after decades of deadlines and breaking news, I found myself wanting something different.
I wanted to slow down.
I wanted to see more of the world—not through a camera crew or a newsroom schedule, but at my own pace.
That’s how Mellow Wanderer began.
This isn’t a travel business or a guidebook. It’s simply a place where I share the places I’ve been, the things I’ve seen, and the experiences that have stayed with me.
Some days that means wandering through a medieval village in Italy.
Other days it’s driving a quiet back road, watching the sun set over the ocean, or finding a small café where the conversation is as memorable as the meal.
Travel has become less about checking destinations off a list and more about paying attention.
The older I get, the more I appreciate the simple moments that often become the best memories.
Retirement has given me the freedom to travel differently.
I don’t feel the need to see everything.
I’d rather spend an afternoon sitting in a town square than rush through another museum simply because it’s famous.
The journey has become more important than the itinerary.
Photography has become part of that journey, too.
I enjoy capturing landscapes, city streets, and everyday moments that tell a story. Sometimes it’s with a camera, sometimes with a GoPro, and sometimes it’s simply a memory that never made it into a photograph.
If you’ve spent any time on this website, you’ve probably noticed that I enjoy road trips, scenic drives, old cities, coastlines, mountains, local food, and conversations with people whose paths happen to cross mine.
Those experiences are what you’ll find here.
Nothing more complicated than that.
I’m not trying to tell anyone how to travel.
These are simply my stories.
If they inspire someone to take a trip they’ve been putting off, wonderful.
If they remind someone of a place they’ve already visited, even better.
And if they simply make someone smile for a few minutes while enjoying a cup of coffee, then Mellow Wanderer has done exactly what I hoped it would do.
Thanks for stopping by.
I hope you’ll come along on the next adventure.
