  • When The Sun Goes Down

    When The Sun Goes Down

Something magical occurs almost every night on Florida’s West Coast. When the sun goes down, as country star Kenny Chesney croons, “we’ll be groovin’.” He goes on to sing, “Lay’n in a hammock where it’s nice’n breezy.” So stretch into the weekend with this short time-lapse video I shot in Tarpon Springs, FL and watch the magic happen!

One of the most spectacular sights on Florida’s Gulf Coast is watching the sun go down. This timelapse was shot at Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs .

Touch Your Soul With An Elegant And Soothing Sunset

If you are fortunate to live near a place where the sun sets over the horizon, my advice is to take advantage and see it every chance you get. There are many sources of emotional therapy, and sunset gazing is just as effective as any you will find. It is a natural source of healing and inspiration. Sit or stand a while and drink it all in. The effects are long-lasting as you watch the sun dip below the horizon. When day turns to night, the sky will change various shades of color. What an exhilarating feeling: peace, tranquility, soul searching.

My favorite spot is just forty minutes from my house at Fred Howard Park Beach in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Here are several photos from my last experience on January 31, 2022. Wonder what February will bring? I also captured a timelapse video transition you can watch on my website video banner. Enjoy!

(MELLOW WANDERER) Whether you call it sundown or sunset, nature’s spectacular end of day transition into evening is the greatest show on earth. It costs nothing. No advanced tickets needed. No two drink minimum required, although popping the cork from a wine bottle while sprawled on a blanket in a park or on a beach is highly recommended.

Some, like MW, are fortunate to live in sunset friendly areas, where the daily ritual is addictive and spectacular. Florida’s west coast is one such place and just happens to be where I nest.

One can immerse themselves in sunset science to explain why this natural phenomenon does what it does. MW would rather feast on the eye candy of it all; the sky flaring in brilliant red, orange, and yellow as the setting sun kisses the Gulf of Mexico horizon.

Sunset celebrations are like daily carnivals in many warm weather spots. Perhaps the best known is Key West, FL, where an eclectic mix of street performers, human oddities, and animal acts entertain drink toting residents and tourists. Mallory SquareKey West’s water front Mallory Square first became a sunset gathering spot back in the early 1960’s.Mallory Sq 3 Since then, the party has grown and is currently managed by the Key West Cultural Preservation Society. You can check out the daily marquee of performers on the KWCPS website.  The fun is free but take a wad of cash with you. Tips are the only way street performers are compensated.
