(MELLOW WANDERER) Whether you call it sundown or sunset, nature’s spectacular end of day transition into evening is the greatest show on earth. It costs nothing. No advanced tickets needed. No two drink minimum required, although popping the cork from a wine bottle while sprawled on a blanket in a park or on a beach is highly recommended.
Some, like MW, are fortunate to live in sunset friendly areas, where the daily ritual is addictive and spectacular. Florida’s west coast is one such place and just happens to be where I nest.
One can immerse themselves in sunset science to explain why this natural phenomenon does what it does. MW would rather feast on the eye candy of it all; the sky flaring in brilliant red, orange, and yellow as the setting sun kisses the Gulf of Mexico horizon.
Sunset celebrations are like daily carnivals in many warm weather spots. Perhaps the best known is Key West, FL, where an eclectic mix of street performers, human oddities, and animal acts entertain drink toting residents and tourists. Key West’s water front Mallory Square first became a sunset gathering spot back in the early 1960’s. Since then, the party has grown and is currently managed by the Key West Cultural Preservation Society. You can check out the daily marquee of performers on the KWCPS website. The fun is free but take a wad of cash with you. Tips are the only way street performers are compensated.
Sunsets evoke a sense of awe, power, and internal peace. A true natural wonder to enjoy wherever you live. Click the video below for a stunning look at sunsets from the Tampa Bay region.
